Open Up Your Mind
Friday, September 16th, 2011 | Author:

How open-minded are we, really? As we go on each day, we always try to keep our minds open to possibilities. Life is about learning and having an open mind can make us ready to see greater opportunities that always a limited mind denies.

But how are we gonna widen our minds? With closed minds, there are possibilities that we miss out a lot of things.  I think it’s not just ideas we are going to miss out, but also opportunities that will bring us laughter, happiness, love and more possibilities for us to enjoy.

For me, it’s not difficult to be an open-minded person only if we are flexible and understanding. Do I have an open mind? To some extent, yes I do. I understand, I am flexible and I believe that flexibility and positive expectations draw up possibilities of good results.  I always listen to people and I don’t neglect people.  Being open-minded means deep patience, though it requires a lot of practice and energy to develop patience. Still, I can manage to control my mind and actions.

Oftentimes, I do random things that exercise my mind.  Simple things that help me think broader and smarter to make me more open.  I sometimes listen to music which I don’t like at first, but if I keep an open mind, I can still find it interesting. I sing too, and I find it an opportunity to express more of me. I watch movies/tv shows that I don’t usually watch. Try it, really it is thought provoking.

I like to learn about different people and lifestyles.  It stimulates appreciation.  I always try to eat food I have never tried.  I always think it’s healthy because I keep an open mind.  I go to the gym not only to build up muscles but to push the limits of my body which I can learn more and expand my mind.  Try anything else that can push your limits. It’s exciting. Sometimes I try to shutdown one of my senses. I can text with both eyes closed. It puts things in a way I am forced to create new ways of doing things I’ve already figured how to do.

Similarly, there are several things you can do to help your mind open. The simple things I do, really help me develop positive frame of mind, encourage creative thinking, good relationship with everyone, clear thoughts and of course broader vision. Let us try our best to develop our skills and enjoy our life with happiness.

In a nutshell, having an open mind is simply seeing things as if it's the first time and thinking about it in new ways. Like the children we once were, we have to deal everything with open minds and fearless spirits believing in our ability to be persistent that we don’t miss out any single opportunity in life.

Courage
Friday, February 25th, 2011 | Author:

More often than not, we wake up each morning with guts, thinking that we have enough courage to stand for anything lies ahead each day.  The thing is, do we really need it? Does it make a difference if we don’t have it? What is it by the way?  Webster clearly defines courage as the ability to conquer fear or withstand despair; it can be either physical or moral.  But as unique individuals, my question is how do we get it?

Courage lies within us, and precisely it is beyond belief and oftentimes has a remarkable effect on the lives of others around us.  It is a way of life.  It is when we stand out to the crowd by bringing out the best in us, believing in ourselves instead of believing in what others say about us.

There are times when we fail or when things fall beyond expectations, we take much courage to stand up again and face it once more, try once more to be able to meet our goal which will take us places or even make us great.  Saying "I have courage" though is not enough, we must take it as part of our life otherwise we’ll ended up just acting for the sake of doing it. Every choice of action starts with conviction, trust, and desire to ultimately overcome the fear to act.

Sometimes all it takes to show courage is not only to take a stand based on belief and conviction but also our willingness to speak and to act in order to bring about change. It’s not enough to just believe in something.  We stand up to make a difference.  Our voice can be powerful.

In our personal life, courage develops our character. People trust us because we believe in something bigger and we stand firmly for what we believe in. Like in a job hunt, we get hired easier because we have traits of courageousness. We become an asset because we stand for truth with determination.  And this is a real courage.  People know what’s with our name when they see courage. It’s the best signature we can have. It gives honor and preserves value.

In a nutshell, courage builds strong individuals.  It keeps us standing for what is right. It is doing the right thing to resist fear, to withstand tests and trials to face the reality. We can have good thoughts, we can dream much but we can't do much if we don’t have enough courage.  Though we are not born with courage, we are born with ability to have it. For without courage, it would be hard to be consistent with other virtues.  It would be hard to be kind, to be true, or even to be honest.

“Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure.”
